Of all the make-up must-have’s, the tinted moisturiser with SPF is the one that should be top of your list.

Whether you know the next cult beauty brand before it trends on Tik Tok over you’re the most un-make-upy of make-up wearers, a tinted SPF will fit perfectly into your routine, and your life.

What is a tinted SPF?

A tinted sunscreen is a product that’s primarily an SPF and also has pigment added to offer light-to-medium makeup coverage. In general, we want one that is an SPF50, but until now, the shade range has been lacking.

But soz – that doesn’t mean you can skip out on your regular SPF. If you’ve ever seen what it looks like to apply the recommended 1/4 teaspoon of product – or two full fingerlengths worth if it’s easier to visualise – to get the proper SPF protection, you’ll know that it’s a lot of makeup – and applying that much definitely wouldn’t result in the fresh-faced finish you’re going for. Think of these as a secondary sunscreen – so you can get away with topping up as much SPF as you really should.

1: GARNIER VITAMIN C BRIGHTENING UV SHEER GLOW SPF50, Β£12

There is a reason why this keeps selling out. If there are two skincare ingredients which experts always suggest will help to slow down the ageing process and visibly brighten your complexion, its SPF and Vitamin C – and this has both.Β The formulation is incredible for the price, and the finish it leaves behind looks like post-facial skin, all the while protecting skin to the max. The subtle, radiant universal tint is probably the lightest finish of the one’s here (less a foundation, more a glow booster – think Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter, that kind of vibe) – if you can get your hands on one before it sells out again, do it!

2: ULTRA VIOLETTE DAYDREAM SCREEN TINTED VEIL, Β£38

I think I’m a bit obsessed with this product. Layered over an SPF base, this buffs and blends into a natural, glowing finish that won’t go oily or patchy. The glow is a dream, and it really does last all day. The formulation is thicker than some of the others here, it’s more like a foundation texture giving more coverage than the serum type’s. Available in 15 shades. I wear shade V4.

Oil-free, silicone-free and alcohol-free

3: ILIA BEAUTY SUPER SERUM SKIN TINT SPF30, Β£48

If I’m being really picky I’d love this to be an SPF50 but I love the 30 strong shade range more, so it’s made the cut. Apply three to four drops to the skin like you would a serum; the lightweight formula glides on, for a dewy natural tint. Squalene, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid plump and hydrate, while the formula protects against UVA, UVB and blue-light rays.

Fragrance-free. Silicone-free. Vegan.

4: EUCERIN SUN FACE PIGMENT CONTROL TINTED, Β£15

Last summer I really struggled with my face, due some over-zealous treatments. Dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk saved me by recommending this – and I went through two bottles of it last summer. Not only does it give the most glowy, skin perfecting coverage, she says it’s the one she trusts due to the hi-tech formula whichΒ minimises the look of sun spots, dark spots and pigmentation plus the high levels of SPF protection for sensitised skin.

5: ODACITE SPF 50 FLEX-PERFECTING MINERAL DROPS TINTED SUNSCREEN, Β£46

Protects like SPF 50, performs like skincare, finishes like makeup. This triple-action formula offers high sun protection, delivers natural, complexion-perfecting coverage, and checks every box. Available in five skin tone adjusting shades, unique colour-adapting pigments that flex to perfectly match the skin’s tone. It’s hypoallergenic, silicone free and water resistant up to 40 minutes (should you be off to a pool party)

6: DR SAM’S GOSSAMER TINT SPF50, Β£35

This doesn’t quite get a gold star due to the shade range (it only comes in four shades, and an un-tinted version) but I know that it’s expensive for a small brand to pump money into different skews at the start, although I hear a shade extension is coming – great because this is a dream for those with sensitive skin, or perioral dermatitus. Developed by leading dermatologist, Dr Sam Bunting, the weightless all-mineral broad-spectrum SPF 50 skin perfector has zero white cast, just nourishing, glowy protection.

Non-Comedogenic and Fragrance Free. Cruelty-Free. Vegan.
