I posted a couple of stories from my laundry room the other day and you guys seemed to love it just as much as I do. I’d go so far as to say it’s probably my favourite room in the house.
I spend so much time doing laundry, I thought it made sense to design somewhere I actually didn’t mind spending time.
A non-negotiable was that it had to be upstairs. I’ve always wondered why we have our washing machines downstairs when we just have to cart the dirty washing downstairs and the clean washing back up. We earmarked a slither of a room off the landing during the build for this room.
I fell in love with a Caeserstone porcelain worktop – Mirabel 506 – a soft ivory base intertwined with bold grey veins and accented with delicate hints of amber. We went for a 20mm thick worktop for a chunky, luxe look and a 12mm backsplash. It is pure perfection and a real statement that everyone comments on. I love it so much that when we come to redo our kitchen in a few years time, I’m going to go for this in there too. It’s made from up to 90% natural quartz, making it harder and stronger than natural stone like granite and marble, meaning it’s more durable and resistant to scratches whilst also being non-porous, which prevents liquids from seeping in and causing stains.
The flooring works perfectly with the cream and amber tones of Mirabel. We decided to go for laminate flooring because as a laundry room, it’s a working room that I didn’t want to be precious about, and let’s face it is likely to have years of wet laundry laying on it. After many, many trips to the flooring shop we went for Parador Trendtime 6 Oak Avant Sanded.
Woodwork wise, we had so many companies cost up the size and in the end we decided to go with Howdens. When I show people they actually can’t believe it and think it looks bespoke. It’s the Howden’s Bridgemere range in Linen. My favourite element of this are the pull out drawers underneath the washer and dryer for pulling clothes out straight into laundry baskets. The white butlers sink is also from Howdens and is 60cm.
I had long-loved the Hendel and Hendel Pembrey range of handles in bronze, which we chose to compliment the bronze plug sockets and door hinges from Corston.
Finally, the lights are from Lights&Lamps, a website I became fully obsessed with and ended up buying lights there for over my dining table, the bathroom and the loft landing. If you’re looking for statement, chic lighting but on the more affordable end of the spectrum without long lead-times then I fully recommend this website. These are the Porsa 1 in lightly aged brass and warm white.
All that we have left to do is have a pull out airer made to fit into the end unit….but I’ve got to save up for that.
